The original American premium and lifestyle brand GANT was founded in 1949 in New Haven, Connecticut. Founder Bernard Gantmacher first made a name for himself as a shirt tailor. For his sporty Oxford shirts, Gantmacher developed many previously unknown details, such as the hanging loop, the box pleat and the third collar button, which are still the recognition features of a classic GANT shirt today. From this success, Bernard Gantmacher and his sons Elliot and Marty formed a complete collection over the years, the first step towards a lifestyle brand.
